We had an incredible stop at the Louisiana State Capitol, graciously hosted by Louisiana Clean Fuels. It was a pleasure to engage in stimulating conversations about clean transportation with the Baton Rouge Hertz team and other attendees. The passion and dedication towards sustainable mobility were evident in our discussions. We were particularly thrilled to learn that the Louisiana transit system has already integrated nine electric transit buses and has plans to expand their fleet to 24 by the end of 2024. Hertz, too, has been making remarkable strides in incorporating electric vehicles into their fleets, further propelling the adoption of clean transportation.
As we bid farewell to Baton Rouge, our next destination was Mobile, AL. However, before hitting the road, we encountered a common challenge faced by EV drivers—finding a working fast charger. Unable to find a working fast charger in Baton Rogue, we made a strategic stop in Hammond, LA. This highlighted a critical issue faced by charging stations: the lack of essential amenities. Charging under the scorching heat of 92 degrees, intensified by high humidity making it feel like 100, emphasized the pressing need for shade and conveniences commonly found at traditional gas stations, such as windshield whisperers, proper lighting, and trash cans. These amenities are essential to enhance the charging experience and ensure the comfort and convenience of EV drivers.
Our journey continued as we ventured into Mississippi, making a fantastic stop at the Gulfport Outlets. It was here that we had an excellent charging experience, topping up our Bolt EUV to 85% capacity. The ease and reliability of the charging process made our visit all the more enjoyable. Energized and ready for the next adventure, we set our sights on Mobile, Alabama—a true delight! Not only did we have the pleasure of meeting up with Drive Electric Alabama, but we also discovered that Mobile is the birthplace of Mardi Gras. The vibrant culture and warm hospitality of the city, coupled with the surprises and goodies shared by Drive Electric Alabama, made our time in Mobile truly unforgettable.
What an eventful day it has been, traversing through four different states in a single day! From the Louisiana State Capitol to Hammond, Mississippi, and finally reaching Pensacola, Florida, our coast-to-coast EV road trip continues to unfold with excitement and discovery.
